How it works

Tip = bill × (tip% ÷ 100). Total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ number of people.

Worked example

£60 bill, 12.5% tip, 4 people → tip £7.50, total £67.50, £16.88 each.

Should I tip in the UK?

Tipping isn't mandatory. 10–12.5% in restaurants is common; rounding up is normal for taxis.

What if the menu says 'discretionary service charge'?

You can ask for it to be removed. It's optional.
