Commercial transparency

How Checks Out may make money

Checks Out calculators and guides are free to use. Some pages may offer an optional route to request help from a relevant professional. This page explains the standard we apply to those commercial journeys.

Optional enquiries

Using a calculator does not require an enquiry. If a user chooses to request help, the form should explain who will receive the information, why it is needed and whether a commercial relationship may apply before submission.

Potential referral income

Checks Out may receive a fee from a professional or service provider when an introduction results in an accepted lead, appointment or customer relationship. The exact arrangement can vary. A calculator result must not be changed to increase the chance of a referral.

No guarantee or endorsement

Payment does not make a provider suitable for every user and does not replace independent checks. Users should verify relevant authorisation, qualifications, insurance, fees and complaints procedures before engaging a professional.

Data and consent

Personal information should be collected only for the stated purpose and handled as described in the privacy policy. Where information will be shared with another organisation, that should be made clear at the point of collection.

Editorial independence

Commercial partners should not control factual conclusions, eligibility rules, formulas or correction decisions. Sponsored or paid content should be labelled clearly if introduced.
